Minutes
Meeting was called to order by President Jeanette Coulter. Guests were introduced by Stan Bugner. Health and Happiness was presented by Jacqueline Buck who announced Kevin Meetze’s birthday was February 18 and Paula and Carey Hite’s anniversary was coming up. Board meeting is tomorrow at 7:30 AM at Panera Bread. Blount Shepard announced Adopt a Highway was scheduled for Saturday, March 10.
Harold Crawford announced Collins and Lacy had agreed to be the Gold Sponsor for the Golf Tournament, scheduled for March 19 at Golden Hills. More teams, sponsors and goodie bag items are needed for the tournament. Special appreciation was given to Bill Danielson (in his absence) for coordinating our Carrabba’s fundraiser. It appears approximately $2700- $2800 was profit for this event. Dr. Hite has two sets of season tickets to the USC baseball games that he is selling at face value and will donate $100 to the Rotary club when the tickets are sold.
New member, Stacy Atkinson, from the Department of Juvenile Justice was inducted into the club. Her sponsor was Joel Collins. Classification speech was given by Dr. Balbir Minhas.
Guest speaker for the day was Tracy Bender, President and CEO of Souper Bowl of Caring. Souper Bowl of Caring began in 1990 with a simple act of caring from a church youth group in South Carolina. The latest figures show 17 million households (1 in 7) in the United States are food insecure, the highest ever recorded in our nation. In 2011 participants and supporters of Souper Bowl of Caring made an impact on the lives of millions of hungry families by collecting over $9.5 million for hunger-relief in America.
